On June 18, 2019, a group of eight abolitionists (5 adults and 3 juniors) traveled from various parts of Florida to Pensacola to meet with District 1 House Representative Mike Hill. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss an abolitionist bill outlawing all abortion as 1st degree murder. Mr. Hill graciously allowed us to videotape our meeting. That video is currently being edited and will be posted upon completion.
Rep. Hill recently made headlines when he said God spoke to him about his heartbeat bill, which died in committee during the 2019 legislative session. "As plain as day, God spoke to me. He said that wasn’t my bill, talking about the heartbeat detection bill that I filed. He said that wasn’t my bill."
"He said, you remove those exceptions and you file it again. And I said 'yes Lord, I will.' It's coming back. It's coming back. We are going to file that bill without any exceptions just like what we saw passed in Alabama."
Representative Hill admitted that once he sat down and actually read the Alabama bill, he was dismayed to find that it was, in fact, riddled with exceptions. (See Siena Hoefling's article about the multiple failures of the Alabama bill). He advised he was planning to refile his heartbeat bill, but remove the exceptions.
Mr. Hill described the exceptions he had removed from the heartbeat bill - rape, incest, trafficking, and life of the mother. We asked him if the domestic violence exception would be removed. We reminded him that even though "If a heartbeat is detected, the baby is protected,
"If there's a police report, you can abort."
Representative Hill confirmed that the domestic violence exception would also be removed from his bill.
"Will it still be a heartbeat bill?" an abolitionist asked.
"Then it has the biggest exception of all."
"I know, but...." Mr. Hill went on to say that bills like his were catching on, enormously popular, and being passed all over the country.
AbolishAbortionFlorida had painstakingly prepared a 45-page prototype bill that would in fact abolish all abortion in the state as first-degree murder. Prototype bills are called "Model Legislation" because lawmakers have a tendency to copy and paste bills. The heartbeat bill, in fact, is a piece of model legislation that was created by a pro-lifer and passed around from state to state. "I got mine from Kentucky," Mr. Hill said, according to an article in the Tallahassee Democrat. We had forwarded our own model legislation, entitled the "Abolition of Abortion in Florida Act," to Mr. Hill several days prior to our meeting. Click here to see a copy of the bill.
Mr. Hill picked up our model legislation and declared that such a bill would be laughed right out of the chamber.
For over an hour, we presented to Mr. Hill the Biblical arguments and scripture that oppose incrementalism and support ONLY the complete and utter abolition of abortion murder. We explained to Mr. Hill the difference between pro-lifeism and abolitionism, the failures of the pro-life paradigm, and how the ONLY way to effectively end abortion is to outlaw it while simultaneously nullifying any and all conflicting edicts (such as Roe v. Wade).
We were able to contact Senator Joseph Silk, the Oklahoma senator who authored that state's Senate Bill 13. Senator Silk had a very similar story in that he had first authored a heartbeat bill, but was convinced by abolitionists that a regulatory measure would be evil on its face if it does not abolish child sacrifice altogether. Senator Silk talked with Representative Hill for several minutes about his own experience and urged Mr. Hill to reconsider a bill of complete abolition. Mr. Hill asked if he could contact Senator Silk in the future to discuss such a bill, and Senator Silk immediately agreed to make himself available. His contact information was written down for Mr. Hill.
Rep. Hill promised he would sincerely pray about the issue, and that he would be obedient to God. We, in turn, promised to support him in every way we possibly could if he files an abolitionist bill. We promised to garner everyone we could, including the 1300 plus people who had previously signed a petition to abolish abortion in the state. We promised to keep the pressure on House Speaker Oliva, Senate President Galvano, Committee chairpersons, and Governor DeSantis. We even half-jokingly offered to camp out at the Capitol throughout the entire 2020 session if need be. We warned Representative Hill that we would oppose and actively fight any bill that had exceptions, did not prosecute all involved for murder, and did not assert state sovereignty. He promised to let us know what he decides.
"Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees, and the writers who keep writing oppression, to turn aside the needy from justice and to rob the poor of my people of their right, that widows may be their spoil, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!" Isaiah 10:1-2
"Then he will answer them, saying 'Truly I say to you; as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'" Matthew 25:45
"For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is Gods servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer." Romans 13:3-4
"It is an abomination for kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness." Proverbs 16:12
"Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute? They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death."
As of the date of publication, it has been over 48 hours. Approximately 8 babies are murdered by surgical and pill abortion alone, every hour in Florida. Almost 400 babies have been butchered since we met with Mr. Hill. We will keep you posted of updates as they occur. In the meantime, please pray for Representative Mike Hill to STOP endorsing the regulation of murder and ABOLISH ABORTION in FLORIDA. We would like Mr. Hill to be inspired by the Lord, and as every Christian knows, the Lord often uses others to inspire and exhort. If you wish to contact Mr. Hill, he can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org , 8800 North 9th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32514-8058, or by phone at (850) 494-5690.
